Drumroll Please... Outreach!!
I have some quite exciting news... hence the double post this week. Destination Paradise has become my blue, a color symbolizing wisdom and trust. And boy did it take a lot of that for me to chose the path I did. And today I discovered part one of Beyond... the mystery, the unknown, the reason for hope. Of course Beyond signifies the rest of my eternal life, but part one begins in just nine weeks, when I embark on outreach.
For those of you who don't know or would appreciate a refresher, I am participating in a Discipleship Training School (DTS) with Youth With a Mission (YWAM). A DTS is completed in two separate phases. Currently, I am in Amergris Caye, Belize to fulfill part one of DTS called Lecture phase. I refer to lecture phase as the study phase, as we do a lot of that during this time. We go to class and complete homework similarly to regular students. Except our homework is taking spiritual gift analyses, memorizing scripture, and learning to love each other. Once we complete lecture phase, we will, along with a smaller team from our DTS family, journey on what is called outreach, which is the "do" of what we learned. Unique to our DTS is the theme: seek God and do what he says. So during this time, lecture phase, we are seeking God. And on outreach phase we will be doing what he says (of course that is in a general scale. We can obey that theme every moment of every day). Now when we came to Belize, we had not a clue of where our possible outreach locations were. Any spot on the map was a possibility for us. But today a few spots on the map became a lot more special to us...
But I don't want to get too ahead of myself now. For a little backstory... From the moment I met the sweet little girl called America in Mazatlan, my heart began to beat for the forgotten of this world. The children who are simply forgotten because their financial situations are not enough to make them someone to remember. The women who are forgotten because they were not good enough for a man to treat them kindly. The fathers who are forgotten because they work all day and all night to provide just the basic needs for their family. No matter how "uncivilized" I sometimes felt for growing up on a small farm in nowhere Indiana, I will always be a rich, white American. And I will always strive to use that blessing to my advantage, to further the kingdom of Christ. I have not forgotten the forgotten. I love them and desire to share my love with them. I desire to go to the unknown places, the hidden places, the forgotten places, and remind those people that God has not forgotten them. God loves them and desires for them to know that love, in whatever ways God asks me to share that.
So.... God did what He does and pushed me in the right direction for my desire today. In fact, he opened the door wide open for me and 9 other students who have a similar desire.
And we're going to...
Hmm maybe I'll add another line for a little added anticipation...
I still eat pineapples everyday in case you're wondering.
THE AMAZON. We're going to the Amazon!!!!!!
The Amazon in Brazil... I am repeating it for myself because I just can't contain my excitement. Stoked. I. AM. STOKED.
Our leaders asked us to share this letter to provide our supporters with detailed information of our outreach. We still have nine weeks before we leave, but I would love for you all to be in prayer about this trip now, as I have a feeling God is going to do some pretty wild things. If you feel led to donate financially to my trip, please just donate here through BtB as it will go straight through to my bank account and I can easily transfer the money to DP.
16 January 2017
Dear Friends, Family and Supporters,
Things are going great during the lecture phase of the current YWAM DP programs here in Belize!
For this current quarter, two outreach locations have been offered to students for prayerful consideration and to choose one to be part of. Outreach is the 8-week, second phase of the YWAM DTS (Discipleship Training School) which begins immediately following the lecture phase. The options for the current quarter include Brazil in South America and Samoa in Polynesia. After a time of prayer, students choose which team to be part of. You are receiving this letter today because the student who sent you this letter has felt called to and chosen Brazil and will be part of that outreach team. They will be telling you more about this experience soon. We would like to humbly yet boldly ask you for the following:
• Please pray for this outreach team, that everyone would do well, be blessed and be a blessing
• Please share these prayer needs with your family, friends and church
• Please prayerfully consider financially supporting us by helping to cover outreach expenses, which is $4,650 per student. We have asked all students to get the total of their outreach fees in as soon a possible but for sure, no later than Friday 10 February 2017. Blessings to you and again, thanks so much for being an important part of missions with us!
Preparing a Few to Reach Millions,
YWAM DP Base Leader
As far as specifics go, I don't have much yet. But as I know more, I will be updating BtB as much as I can! More than anything, I'm asking for prayer. God has been doing amazing things with this group, and I can't wait to see more from him. But in the meantime, feel free to contact me directly (on the about page) with any questions! God bless!
